It Is Written... Yes It Is!

This week we will revisit some basics of the Science of Mind, the foundational philosophical teachings of Religious Science and the Centers for Spiritual Living. Our Text, "The Science of Mind," was written by our founder Ernest Holmes in 1926. Actually it was not written as a book, it was/is a compilation of his many years of lectures and meditations on how to accept our Divine Nature, the fact that God/Life is always for us, and that we are each co-creators of our lives. Holmes was an avid reader and at a young age when he read "Emerson's Essays" by Ralph Waldo Emerson, he was particularly drawn to the essay on Self-Reliance. This began a lifelong study of worldwide teachings on philosophy, religion, spirituality, healing, and the nature, abilities, opportunities and interconnectedness of all Life. He saw the similar beliefs of world religions which, beneath the different customs/practices/prejudices/superstitions, were at their core very much in harmony. He found that they shared a "Golden thread of truth." This centered on the belief that there is one Universal Spirit or Universal Mind that exists in and around us, and that we can use it to bring about healing, joy, fulfillment in our lives.
In the first edition of "The Science of Mind Magazine" which was published in 1927, Holmes set out tenets about what we in Religious Science believe. They are clear and concise and represent the kind of consciousness I desire to exemplify to the best of my ability each day.
We will review these on Sunday morning. If you are newer to CSL and aren't really clear on our philosophy, or if you have friends that ask you what we believe in at CSL and you struggle to reply, this will bring you splendid details of great interest and worthy of sharing with others. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
In love and gratitude,
Rev. Helen Downey
